Grampian Society for the Blind is a charity which provides support and advice to about 2500 people with a visual impairment in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.
We provide a direct social work and rehabilitation service to people within their own homes as well as co-ordinating numerous groups.
The groups, which the staff and volunteers run, give people with a visual impairment the opportunity to meet socially and gain support from others in similar situations as themselves.
Groups take place either in the Resource Centre at 21 John Street or within local community venues.
John Street Groups The Partnership Club Attendance of this group is open to all people with visual impairment and their family, spouse or carers. This group meets alternate Tuesdays from 2 pm to around 3.45pm. There is a published programme available. There is no transport available to this group.
The Mens Club Similar to the Ladies Club, but this runs every Thursday from 10am – 12 noon.
Dominoes Group This group meets from every Thursday 1-3pm and obviously plays dominoes !
Community Based Groups Cloverfield Group This group meets the last Tuesday of the month at the Cloverleaf Hotel. The group meets to enjoy a bar lunch together and talk over the local Dyce and Bucksburn news. There is no transport available to this group. Contact the Social Worker for this area for more information.
Shooting Club This group meets at the Countesswells Gun Club on a Wednesday night. There is transport available from the John Street office. Places are limited and therefore contact reception staff, 625622 for more information.
Community Groups – Aberdeenshire North Portsoy This group meets each Monday from 2-4 pm in the Day Care Centre in the Square.
Peterhead The Peterhead group meets in the Glenugie Centre each Wednesday from 2 –4 pm.
Banff This group meets on a Friday from 2- 4pm at Doo’cot Very Sheltered Housing block.
Fraserburgh The Fraserburgh group meets on a Thursday from 2-4pm at the South Church Hall.
Turriff In Turriff a group meets every Friday from 2–4pm in Dawson Very Sheltered Housing Block All of the Aberdeenshire North groups activities include crafts, quizzes, cards, games and tea and chat.
Aberdeenshire South Stonehaven A group meets in St Bridgets Church Hall from 2-4pm in the first Thursday of the month.
Banchory The Banchory club meets on the second Thursday of each month from 2-4pm in the West Church Hall.
The groups in Aberdeenshire South are entirely run by volunteers with some support form GSB staff. A programme of entertainment is organised.
Aberdeenshire Central Huntly The Huntly group meets on the last Monday of the month from 2-4pm at the Business Centre.
Inverurie Inverurie Tea and Chat club meets third Thursday every month from 2-4pm at Don House, Kelland Road, Inverurie.
Ellon The Ellon Club meets the last Tuesday on the month from 2-4pm in the British Legion.

Moray Clubs Elgin The club in Elgin meets every Monday from 2.00 - 4.00 p.m in the Community Centre.
Forres The Forres Club meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday of month, 2-4 pm at St Margaret's House, Forres.
Buckie In Buckie a group meets every Thursday from 2-4 pm in Linn Coort .
Keith for people that have a visual impairment who live in Keith and the surrounding area. The Group meets on the first Thursday of each month from 2:15pm to 4:00pm in the North Church Hall, 192 Mid Street, Keith. For further information please contact the Elgin Office on 01343 544469.
Lossiemouth for people that have a visual impairment, who live in Lossiemouth and the surrounding area. The Group meets one Wednesday per month from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in the Residents Lounge at Hersbruck Sheltered Housing Complex, Hersbruck Court, Ramsey Lane, Lossiemouth. Young Persons Group for people who have a visual impairment under the age of 55 years who live in Moray, Banff, Macduff and Huntly and the surrounding areas. The Group meets one Friday of each month at the Elgin Library in the Activities Room from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. For futher details please contact the Elgin Office.
Other Groups There are also groups for people who have a visual impairment that are not run by Grampian Society for the Blind. These include; • Mannofield Coffee Club • Blind Bowlers Group • Blind Golfing Group • Torch Trust • Rainbow Group – group run by DeafBlind Scotland for people with a dual sensory loss
