Established in 1879, the Society works with around 2,500 people with a visual impairment in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray. The Society provides a range of services including a domiciliary social work service, a rehabilitation service, resource centres in Aberdeen and Elgin, social activities and assistance with daily living skills. As a local, independent charity the Society relies on fundraising to maintain services to clients. All money raised stays in the North East for the benefit of local people with a visual impairment. Membership of the Society Friends of the Society Donations of Goods for our Charity Shop Leaving a Legacy All donations are welcome and should be made payable to Grampian Society for the Blind. Membership of the Society Rates are £5 for annual, £50 for life membership for clients and £10/£75 for non-clients. Application form are available in Word and HTML format. Members are entitled to vote at Annual General Meetings, receive discounts on admission to certain events organised by the Society and are sent an annual report. Friends of the Society For £10 per annum you can become a friend of Grampian Society for the Blind. They receive a quarterly newsletter and annual report on the work they are supporting. Phone us for an application leaflet. Donations of Goods to the Shop Our shop is at 306 George Street, Aberdeen. Opening hours: Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm Saturday 11am – 3pm Please make donations to our store at 365 George Street, Aberdeen. This is open Monday to Friday from 10-12 to receive goods. Alternatively, we can collect on Wednesday mornings. To arrange a collection please phone 0845 27 12345. Legacies Your money can make a big difference to visually impaired peoples’ lives after you’ve gone. A legacy ensures that the Society can continue to provide its charitable services to clients in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray. Any Solicitor will gladly help you to arrange a bequest. Support Our Events The Society runs a series of events throughout the year. These have included ceilidhs, quizzes, sponsored events (such as bike rides), trolley dashes, stalls at fairs and larger corporate events. Groups have also helped by hosting events, such as coffee mornings and concerts. If you have ideas or could run an event, please get in touch. Donations in Kind Sometimes companies and others offer the Society items of equipment such as computer hardware. Others may prefer to sponsor equipment such as low vision aids. Alternatively, you may have a skill that the Society could use. Internet Shopping Help GSB when you shop on the Internet. The Society receives a contribution for purchases made through www.buy.at/gsb.
